Electronic Cigarettes

The U.S. Surgeon General released a report in 2016 concluding that e-cigarette aerosol is not harmless and contains toxic chemicals, including carcinogens and extremely addictive levels of nicotine. Increasing cigarette and tobacco product taxes can lower youth initiation of tobacco products, help adults quit tobacco use, and provide funding for much-needed health programs.

About the Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Coalition

Since 2002, the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition of LaPorte County has overseen the distribution of nearly $2 million in Master Tobacco Settlement funds coming into LaPorte County. Our Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition is dedicated to improving the health of our community by focusing on four priority areas. These areas include:
  • Reducing tobacco use among youth and young adults
  • Increasing the number of Hoosiers who are not exposed to secondhand smoke
  • Decreasing adult smoking rates
  • Maintaining the necessary infrastructure to reduce commercial tobacco use rates
We believe that collaboration and partnerships with all sectors of the community are key to achieving our goals. We strive to advocate for a wide variety of health equity issues and work towards a healthier, smoke-free future. While there is still much work to be done, our coalition remains committed to supporting residents in their efforts to quit smoking and preventing individuals from starting to smoke. Together, we can create a healthier and happier community for all.
